AFGHAN BALUCH WOOL RUG

This is a hand-knotted wool rug from Afghanistan, belonging to the group of Baluchi tribal rugs. In this context, Baluch does not refer to a specific place of origin, but primarily to the Baloch people and their historical cultural region, which extends across present-day Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.

The most striking feature of the rug is its distinctive compartmental composition. Set against a warm rust-red background, the design is built around a rhythmic sequence of dark and blue octagonal geometric motifs.

One of the most interesting characteristics of this rug is the imperfection of its ornamentation. The motifs are not identical; their shapes, sizes and placement vary slightly. It is precisely this kind of irregularity that makes a hand-knotted rug unique.

Condition: The rug is in fair condition. There are signs of wear, and the colours have faded considerably over time, giving the rug its softer, more muted appearance. The rug has been both dry and wet cleaned.
