PERSIAN NAHAVAND WOOL RUG
This rug was hand-knotted in western Iran, in Hamadan Province, and more specifically originates from the Nahavand region. Nahavand rugs have a distinctly individual character that sets them apart from other rugs made in Hamadan. They are also less strictly symmetrical, with designs that tend to be bolder, more abstract and somewhat freer in style.
At the centre of the rug is a large elongated medallion, with tree-of-life motifs extending from both ends. The design features a rich variety of geometric forms, highlighted through contrasting colours and smaller striped details. The central field is skilfully framed by flowing, curving forms, and as is often the case with distinctive handmade rugs, the smaller motifs are not perfectly mirrored or identical. These are the kinds of details that make the rug worth studying up close. 🤗
Condition: The rug is in very good condition. There is even wear to the pile. The original guarantee label confirming its origin is still attached to the back of the rug. A particularly interesting detail is the signature in the lower right corner of the central field, which most likely represents the name of the workshop owner. The rug has been both dry and wet cleaned by us.
