PERSIAN SAROUK WOOL RUG ••• RESTORED •••
410,00 €
This beautiful Iranian wool carpet with rich ornamentation features the structure and motifs typical of the Sarouk region. On the back of the carpet, there's a warranty label that shows a design called Toranj Mahi, which translates to medallion and fish. This points to the Herat pattern with its fish-like ornamentation. You can see this pattern across the entire main field of the carpet.
The central medallion, or Toranj, blends seamlessly into the surrounding pattern field, forming a unified whole. The rug is hand-knotted from wool yarn with a cotton warp.
On the back, there is a preserved original guarantee label from a Danish carpet merchant, which is an exciting historical addition. The label lists the carpet's region as Sarouk, with the name G.L. Nahavand and the design as Toranj Mahi. It also documents the knot density and notes that the wool is dyed only with natural pigments, which wear more gently over time than aniline dyes.
Condition: The carpet is in good condition. There is even wear on the surface fibers. The edges of the carpet have been manually re-hemmed by us. We used wool thread in a color close to the original. Additionally, it has been dry and wet cleaned.
