TURKISH KARS-KAZAK WOOL RUG

250,00 €

This golden-yellow Turkish wool rug was hand-knotted in the Kars region of eastern Turkey. Kars lies close to the borders of Georgia and Armenia, in the historical Caucasus region, and its rug-making tradition has therefore been strongly influenced by Caucasian styles, particularly Kazak designs. Rugs combining Turkish and Caucasian influences only began to be woven in Kars around 100 years ago, making this a relatively young tradition.

These rugs are typically characterised by strongly geometric designs. Common features include large central medallions, star and sun motifs, clear contrasting colours and multi-layered borders.
